Associate/Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine,/Biomedical Engineering (Tenure)
University of Southern California
Job Description
Overview
The Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine, in partnership with the School of Advanced Computing within the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, invites applications from outstanding faculty candidates at the level of Associate Professor or above with expertise in computational modeling of human tissues. We seek candidates who develop frameworks to understand and control complex tissue‑scale dynamics, such as multicellular interactions, structural remodeling, and mechanoadaptation. We expect candidates to integrate mechanistic and data‑driven approaches to bridge molecular, cellular, and tissue scales, and to develop predictive computational frameworks that enable fundamental biological discoveries, inform therapeutic strategies, and/or guide the design of engineered living systems.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in coupling cell/tissue dynamics to biophysical features relevant to the cardiovascular system, such as electromechanical coupling, inflammation, extracellular matrix remodeling, and/or fluid dynamics.
Center Details
The successful candidate will be a core member of the new Center for Stem Cell Engineering, a joint initiative between the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and the Alfred E. Mann Department of Biomedical Engineering. The mission of the Center is to integrate stem cells, microphysiological systems, synthetic biology, and advanced computational frameworks to develop predictive human tissue models and accelerate the discovery and development of new therapies, including engineered tissues and gene or cell therapies.
The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and leading the computational pillar of the Center and is expected to be highly collaborative with other Center members, who collectively have broad expertise in stem cell‑based systems and associated analysis techniques, such as single‑cell and spatial transcriptomics, genomics, and high‑content imaging. The successful candidate will be housed in the Doheny Building at the USC Health Sciences Campus, co‑localized with other Center members.
Affinity Group & Collaborations
The successful candidate will also be a member of the Computational Medicine and Health Affinity Group in the USC School of Advanced Computing, the newly established epicenter of all computing‑related activities at USC. Faculty in this Affinity Group leverage advances in computing to enable scientific discovery in the biomedical data sciences and their application to patient care and health. Excellent resources and strong collaborative opportunities exist with the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine, USC Center for Advanced Computing (CARC), Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, clinical departments in the Keck School of Medicine, and the Department of Quantitative and Computational Biology in the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $250,000-$350,000.
